Which antidetect browsers are free, and which are open source. Donut Browser and Camoufox compared with the free tiers of nine paid tools.

Donut Browser: the free profile manager

Donut Browser gives unlimited local profiles with full fingerprinting, proxies, WireGuard and a local API at $0. You do not make an account. The app is AGPL-3.0, so you can audit it and build it yourself. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with AppImage, deb, rpm, Flatpak and Snap packages.

The limits are clear. The fingerprint engine is closed source. Browser automation and MCP control need a paid plan. The Solo plan ($29/mo) adds 20 cloud backups, remote MCP and commercial use.

Camoufox: the free library

Camoufox is an MPL-2.0 Firefox fork for Playwright. Both the engine and the tooling are open, and fingerprints are set in C++. It is free with no limits.

It is a library, not an app. There is no GUI and no profile manager. You drive it from Python or Node through Playwright. Releases are beta. Choose it when you write scripts and do not need to manage profiles by hand.

Donut Browser vs Camoufox

Donut Browser Camoufox
Score 93.0 84.8
Engine base Chromium Firefox
Profile manager Yes No
Open source App only Engine and tooling
Automation Local API, CDP, MCP (paid) Playwright

Camoufox wins on openness. Donut Browser wins on everything a daily user needs: a GUI, profile groups, cookies, extensions and a Chromium base that blends in with more traffic. Full detail: Donut Browser vs Camoufox.

Free tiers of paid tools

Kameleo is the best paid-vendor free tier. It gives unlimited local profiles, but only 2 can run at the same time, and you need an account. MoreLogin includes its API on the free plan, which is rare. The rest cap you at 2 to 5 profiles, and most store them in the vendor cloud.

Why open source matters here

An antidetect browser holds your sessions, cookies and proxy credentials. With closed code, you trust the vendor. With open code, you or someone else can check what it sends and where. Two incidents in this market, the Dolphin{anty} breach and the AdsPower supply-chain attack, show why that check is useful.
